Nathan, a South Florida native, was born in Miami on Earth Day, no less! Perhaps it’s a coincidence that an Earth Day-born solar professional has spent the last 17 years of his career in the clean energy sector. In 2004, Nathan saw an article in USA Today about solar energy and the benefits of generating your own power. Already an electrician by trade (the family trade), he attended a trade school at the Florida Solar Energy Center in Cocoa, FL, to learn more about the industry. He then spent several years installing systems as an electrician. In 2010, he left Florida to spend a year in California, learning from the best in the business in a more well-established and veteran market. In 2015, Nathan accepted an offer to open SolarCity’s (Tesla Energy) first operations office in the State of Florida, where he led the growth of the business to 12 field crews, becoming the largest solar operations staff in Florida. They had installed over 120 projects per month by the time he left in 2019 to found Castaways Energy with Carl Craig. Nathan’s dedication to building a team centered on customer experience, quality, and leadership is second to none. Solar power is Nathan’s passion, and Castaways Energy is his family. When he’s not spending time with his Castaways family, Nathan coaches basketball for his two sons, Marshall and Morgan, and goes on excursions with his daughter Sheila in Crystal River.

Carl is a Florida-born, seasoned Master Electrician and the license holder for Castaways Energy, with 2 decades of experience in the electrical trade. Carl began his electrical career immediately after graduating from Deland High School in 2001, enrolling in Seminole College’s FEAT (electrical trade school) program. He would later become a teacher for several years at that same FEAT school, passing on his knowledge and experience to hundreds of future skilled tradesmen—some of whom work with Carl at Castaways Energy today! Carl’s electrical career has spanned across commercial, residential, and renewable energy sectors, and he also specializes in multi-level project estimating, energy management systems, generators, energy storage, automation, refrigeration, and cooling. In 2017, he joined Tesla Energy, where he installed the first Powerwalls in the country for the company. His leadership has been instrumental in the installation of more than 200 Tesla Powerwall systems. Having co-founded Castaways Energy with Nathan Traynor in 2019, Carl now manages the quality, electrical, and customer experience. He enjoys spending time with his daughter, Gracen, and his wife, Stephanie, and occasionally catching a few dink basses when he’s not managing the Island of Solar Excellence at Castaways Energy!

Daniel (aka D-Mo), a Space Coast native and “Florida Man,” has been in the solar industry for nearly a decade, overseeing installations, service, engineering & design, project management, and any task you can imagine that is associated with our clean energy industry! D-Mo has substantial experience in every aspect of the business. Like Carl, D-Mo is also a former Tesla Energy rockstar; he piloted a first-of-its-kind Powerwall program for Tesla Energy in Orlando and helped lead the entire company in developing Powerwall SOPs and standard practices for the installation of energy storage systems (batteries). Using his knowledge pertaining to the design, development, and supervision of turn-key installations of solar and storage energy systems, he is a valuable resource for the Castaways Energy partnership. D-Mo currently supervises the technical and quality aspects of all projects installed by Castaways Energy. He is our NABCEP-certified PV Installation Professional—the highest level of PV certification that can be obtained in the United States. When he’s not on the Island of Solar Excellence at Castaways Energy, you might find D-Mo, his son Greyson, and his wife, Lauren, on their boat catching some sunshine at Disappearing Island at the New Smyrna Beach Inlet!

Bryan, a born-and-bred Florida native from the Lake Okeechobee region, has over 20 years of experience in inventory, purchasing, supply chain, logistics, and warehouse management. His solar career began in 2016 with Tesla Energy, working with Nathan to launch solar operations in the State of Florida. In June of 2019, he became a partner with Castaways Energy. Bryan is responsible for purchasing, warehouse management, supply chain strategies, and quality control to obtain the best products at negotiated prices to reduce costs for the customer and the company. His team meticulously prepares each job before installation to ensure every aspect of the preparation is flawless. Bryan ensures that our crews are fully equipped in the field for quick and smooth installations every day. His careful attention to detail, wonderful sense of humor and humility, and total dedication to the success of Castaways Energy are the epitome of why we are on an Island of Solar Excellence. Bryan’s son, Gavin, a student at Southeastern University, is also a Castaway! Bryan enjoys life with his beautiful bride, Jessica, and his son, Cody, and daughter, Taylor. You might catch him in his kayak with a fishing pole in hand!

Dan (aka DK) began his journey in solar energy with SolarCity (now known as Tesla Energy) in 2014 in his hometown of New Bedford, Massachusetts. DK established a reputation for taking great pride in his work, with attention to detail and quality unknown to mankind. He quickly climbed the ranks to become a crew leader at SolarCity/Tesla. In 2019, Carl and Nathan identified DK as a great fit for the standards that are embraced at the Island of Solar Excellence at Castaways Energy, and he was invited to become a partner of the company. He now oversees the installation and service scheduling, troubleshooting, system activations, and system monitoring and is a critical gear of our customer service engine. DK’s dedication to the success of our company and the happiness of our customers is one of the many reasons that Castaways Energy installations and service are second to none. DK enjoys spending time with the love of his life, Kelcie, his boxer, Millie, and his brother, Casey (a roof lead at Castaways Energy). You’ll find him on his kayak for outdoor adventures and fishing the beautiful waters in our great state of Florida!
